FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the fund?

The Student Loan Debt Cancellation Fund is a special project from Students United that is raising money to wipe out as much student loan debt from Minnesota State institutions as possible. Anyone can give to the fund, and we are encouraging people whose federal student loans are on hold to give one of their monthly payments to the fund while on hold. The fund is a collective effort, and we encourage everyone to give and apply to the fund.

This fall applications for debt relief will open and we plan to pull winners in the spring of 2022. These people will have their total student loan debt eliminated through the fund. Names not drawn will be put back into the eligibility pool.

Who is eligible to apply for the fund?

If you have student loan debt from a higher education institution in Minnesota, you are eligible to apply when the fund opens this Fall. The fund prioritizes individuals who obtained debt from Minnesota State colleges and universities along with people of various communities who are disproportionately burdened by the student loan crisis. All individuals with student debt are encouraged to apply!

When do applications open?
